Display Honda accord 2005

DaysOfNoah@driveaccord skrev: For those just joining us (because I bumped the thread) -- go read "03 Accord clock issue?" which lists the exact symptoms that led to this repair.
I bought the part from Majestic Honda. Part number 39710-SDA-A41. Once installed, everything has worked great and the problem is gone. So it was not the connector, it was the display assembly itself.
Unless you can buy from your local Honda dealer, here are 2 places you can get the part:

I took apart the dash. There are 3 clasps that will release if you pull on the whole vent assembly with enough force. Approximate location: lower right, lower left, under the hazard light (when depressed).
Some recommend using a thread looped through your vents and just pulling hard. In any event, I used a micro-screwdriver to pry out the left side and right side of the vents -- the whole upper vent assembly then was released. I did not need to fiddle with the hazard-light button at all. Just look at the photo below.
Look at the red squares below... those are the 2 screws to release the display assembly from the upper dash vent assembly. Don't drop them into your air ducts!
This is the part (display assembly) that needed replacing.
Further taken apart. This is all included with part number 39710-SDA-A41
The original part lasted 6 years. Hopefully the new part will last the life of the car (30+ years) .
Other thoughts on repair...
If you are adventurous, and want to give one last ditch effort before buying the $115 part... you could always heat the circuit board (remove as much of the plastic enclosure as you can) at 360 degrees (F) for 5 minutes in an oven until the solder melts, then open the oven and let cool 30 minutes before you touch. Bake over aluminum foil (or preferably a cookie sheet covered with aluminum foil) and make sure there is good ventilation. Some have had success with electronics repair using this method (HP LaserJet 2015 series, XBOX, etc). You can Google to see what I mean. Try at your own risk, I am not an electronics repair expert at all. For all I know the display part could badly melt, blow up, etc. I doubt it, but my point is this is outside my expertise. If you try it, post your results so everyone else can see whether it was a good or bad idea. But then again, I don't think you have much to lose. Worst case is it doesn't work and you have to buy the new part anyway.
I hope the pictures are helpful to anyone else running into this issue.
